Down in the graveyard where we have our tryst
The air smells sweet, the air smells sick
Developed after a childhood of systematic bullying and abuse from her schoolmates, Arsinoë has a personality that demands constant reinforcement and compliments from others. Though she is inherently self-centred, she visibly cares deeply for the people around her and finds it easy to adopt a cheery, caring attitude. Arsinoë would drop everything to help a person in need, but would never tell of the resentment she feels afterwards for having to take time from the care of her own personal psyche to help the other person. She holds grudges but avoids confrontations. Often seems shallow to the casual viewer.
Her childhood was an unhappy one. Her parents managed one of the hotels in Meride (and a particularly nice one at that), earning enough money to send Arsinoë to school and provide her with what luxuries she wanted. Her home-life was a good one, but at school it was a different matter. Things were fine until Arsinoë manifested her gift. And while being an empath was not particularly notable, it was the route she took with her abilities that alienated her from her peers. Playing with the dead, apparently, isn't viewed too favourably by other ten-year-olds.
Arsinoë tried to ignore this, but the unfortunate nickname of Vulture took hold and her late primary and middle school years were a mess of bullying and hate. But rather than withdraw into herself, Arsinoë believed that the solution to this was to be overly friendly with everyone. She put on a smile when they pushed her in the mud, let them copy her homework, and laughed at all their jokes. Nothing changed in middle school, but when she switched to high school, she gained a reputation as someone you could rely on.
She also became known as someone who seemed to give less than no shits about anyone else's opinions, but her few confidants knew her as a person who needed reassurance that she really was doing okay, that she wasn't boring or superficial or needed new hobbies.
Her powers in necromancy became more of a secret in high school and the years that followed. By eleventh grade only her closest friend Ara knew and cared about her abilities and often helped her get a hold of fresh roadkill to practice on.
But the real kicker was just after graduation. She and her best friend decided to go on a road trip to Fastatluc and the entire trip went smoothly until their way back. The night was dark and it was raining heavily and their vehicle skidded and went off the road. Arsinoë remembers only seeing Ara's terrified face in a flash of lightning and then everything fading to black.
The decision to send Arsinoë to Ennui University occurred when her parents found her sobbing in the cemetery, drunk out of her mind and trying to raise Ara from the dead by possessing her body. It was concluded by OSR officials that the recent trauma Arsinoë had experienced had damaged her psyche and was making her a danger to her peers. Within a day she was shipped, hungover, to Ennui University in order to be reeducated in the uses of her abilities.
POWER: astral projection and as an extension of that the possession of recently made corpses
