Kyva Torre Branett
To the leader, the pariah, the victim, the messiah: This is War.
Kyva has always had two sides of herself. For the most part, she is rather quiet, preferring to be seen and hear the things most won't hear unless they pay attention. However, she didn't get her nickname for nothing. She has a largely bitter streak for the shy quiet girl. If she finds something displeasing to her or the one or two people who manage to get on her good side, there will be hell to pay, quite literally. But with as detached as she is from most matters, it's hard to tell whether she is happy or angry at what is going on.
Kyva hasn't really been in control of her own life for what seemed like ages. She was raised in a blinded world by people who were kind and caring but blissfully ignorant. For the first several years of her life, that's all she actually knew. She knew a women's smile, she knew a boy's laugh, and she knew a man's warm hand on her head every night to tuck her into bed. However, this did not last forever and as most stories go, the good disappeared all to soon.
She woke up one night not in her own bed but in fire and brimstone with heat flickering around her like they were alive. Creatures darted in shadows and monsters shuffled through this world of heat that she appeared in. However, the flames didn't hurt her... and the monsters never did her any harm. In fact, the flames listened to her when she cried for them to stop and the monsters bowed to the whim of a child under duress.
She stayed there for a year, trapped in this hellish world that was really no hell at all for her. Don't get me wrong, it was no real pleasure to be here but the monsters raised her and helped her survive. She didn't age, she never hungered, but it was an prison all the same. It took her that year to realize she could leave this place... a year for the power that got her here to finally stabilize enough for her to leave. She first created a portal on that day, taking her back home to the very same spot she had left. Only, this time she appeared in a room that seemed untouched by time. As if she had never left. She arrived back on the same night that she left barely hours later.
She never spoke of what she had been through but the cheery little girl was no more after that. What was left was a quiet, calculated shell of a girl who rarely spoke. She continued to grow, moving through highschool and she never showed any sign, at least outwardly, that she was gifted. She kept it hidden well and as she seemed to exude the aura of caution around her, people left Kyva clear and well enough along. However, those who didn't leave her be, who caused her pain or torment, always seemed to wake up one night in a place of fire and pain, an endless maze in the world that would sear their flesh from their bones for days on end only to reappear in the same hours dead in their beds at night, looking as if wolves had taken to their bodies.
Kyva slowly began to be associated with these murders, though there was never evidence to prove it. In fact, she even began to be called the hellhound after the way the victims were eaten and burned. The quiet girl in the corner who would smile if her favorite music was played or would hug near any dog she saw... people were scared of the little shy thing. And they had ever right to be.
Ennui learned about her only by rumors. Apparently Kyva wasn't careful enough... or maybe they had planned it from the beginning, but having someone sent out to try to rape her was never a smart plan. On that day, walking back from classes, headphones on and eyes shut to listen to the music, the people of Ennui witnessed the tear in reality for the first time. The man disappeared, sucked into a rift of blue and red and was gone, all while leaving the girl behind still clutching her bag and staring at the place where the man had been with disgust.
There was no body ever found of that man but Kyva was taken away at that point in time, becoming part of the system. They learned how she could control dimensional rifts, could create a portal that could help, not just harm. The place where she sent people only existed in the area between two portals. She didn't necessarily have to send them to hell, which was, they figured, why Kyva only ever tossed the ones she didn't like in there.
As to Kyva herself, she is rather neutral in the matter of Ennui. If asked, she would tell you that she prefers it here simply because it's more quiet but what she is really thinking remains a mystery. Her powers are an asset, one that the school finds quite useful. A girl who can send you across the world in a blink of an eye... well, it's quite a powerful parlor trick, don't you think? A whole new means of transportation. Powerful in its uses but deadly in its meaning.
The only true problem with using the girl is that she could disappear in an instant. Some might threaten that there is no place on this earth that they won't find her but for her, this is not really an issue. Why would she need to stay on earth when all of Hell listens to the hounds howl?
POWER: Kyva possesses the gift of spacial manipulation. This, in a more simple term, refers to the access of energy used to cross dimensions and cause rifts. Simpler people would call them portals. She can use the energy present around her to create a portal rift in this dimension and connect it to another point in the same dimension somewhere else.
This, however, is not as simple as it sounds. When one rift is opened it's like a door that swing into a room with another door on the other side. This room is the space between the first rift and the second that opens in the new destination. Most aren't aware of ever going through this middle dimension at all but it does exist... and for those trapped in it... well, it's quite akin to hell. Thus, the nickname, hellhound.
